I've just this minute finished reading 'Hanging In There' by John Dickson and I had to tell you about it! This book is about everything from the Bible to sex! It's all written in a humorous, down-to-earth easily understandable style. If you have any questions on anything to do with living out your faith, this book is a fantastic source of answers.
John Dickson puts a fresh perspective on all the usual issues and since he is an Aussie, there's lots of familiar mentions as well, all of which combine to make it a great read. Here's an example of his style:
Imagine trying to race a car around Bathurst's Mount Panorama race track. Some of us may do all right but unless you're an expert, it's a pretty difficult thing to do. However, suppose that Peter Brock, the world class racing driver, hopped in your car and took the wheel. Things would change, wouldn't they.
When God comes to live inside a Christian, it's sort of like Peter Brock taking the wheel. He makes us able to do things that would be impossible for us normally.
I'd encourage anyone to read this book - it's a great reminder of what being a Christian is all about.
