Freedom 2001! FireStarter Rally
On Saturday 18th August, we held our fourth FireStarter rally for this year, and the theme was Freedom 2001! We had about 150 young people, a large number of which were coming for the first time. Everyone had a fantastic night, and it was one of the best rallies we've had. I really believe that the main reason for that was that there were so many young people involved in preparing or presenting the night, from those singing and playing on stage (way to go Renee, Dom and Pat!), those in the drama, sharing their testimony (woohoo Caitlin!), setting up the hall, welcoming people, creating the fliers (great job Veronica and Eve!), preparing the video announcements, planning the prayer responses and those who brought a friend along or just came with a smile and really got into the music!
Through the drama and testimonies, we were reminded of God's awesome love for each of us, and that even though we become chained down through our sins, if we just cry out to Jesus and ask Him to forgive us, He will free us from those chains time every time. We try to become free through so many different people and things, but Jesus is the only one who can give us that true and lasting freedom.
I think one of the highlights for me was the amazing version of 'Hanging By A Moment" during the prayer time.
"Desperate for changing, Starving for truth, Closer to where I started, Chasing after You;
Forgetting all I'm lacking, Completely incomplete, I'll take Your invitation, You take all of me now
And I'm falling even more in love with You, Letting go of all I've held on to,
I'm standing here until You make me move, Just hanging by a moment here with You."
They are just such incredible words, and such an awesome prayer to God. It really shows the result of finding freedom in Jesus. It is the prayer that I want to be able to pray everyday.
Many of you responded on the night by writing and drawing on the FREEDOM prayer banner. I'm going to share some of the things that were written, as a way to remember each of our responses to God that night.
