We live normal lives, walking unbeknownst amongst the common people. They do not know we are among them. Alone, we are five ordinary people, but with our powers combined (and with the grace of God), we are THE E-TEAM, banding together to fight all forms of evil, boredom and Sith Lords in the lives of the young people of Emmanuel Covenant Community and the Brisbane Archdiocese…
Let us introduce ourselves. The E-Team (short for Emmanuel Youth Team) is an ongoing ministry of Emmanuel. We've got three members from the best state (New South Wales); Michael Levick, Janine King and Andrew Lowden, another from the A.C.T.; Emma Ryan and the last but not least from sunny Qld; Theresa Willemsen. We share a house and have committed to living a Christian lifestyle, according to the Emmanuel Way of Life. Most of us have jobs and all of us are busy but we also all share a HUGE commitment to this team. Our vision is to work with the young people of Emmanuel, Brisbane and the world (yes that means you!!)
Some of our events are:
"Optional Group", a youth group for teenagers in high school who would like to explore and deepen their faith;
"18+", an opportunity for those who have left school to meet and build relationships;
"Open House", particular times when the team opens their house to young people as a chance to just hang out.
And on top of all that, our house is open 24-7 for people to drop around for a coffee (someone is usually home and if they're not feel free to lounge around on our comfy sofa's out the back, like some already do!), a chat or just to hang! In our house, we have the usual kitchen, dining room and toilets, but also a prayer room, which anyone is free to use to spend as much quiet time with the Big Guy as they like, and a library of Christian books, magazines and CDs that can all be borrowed anytime.
We also run "FireStarters" every two months with Emmanuel Worship. These huge rallies incorporate music, drama, testimonies and multimedia. Open to all youth, FireStarters have drawn crowds of up to 200 teenagers, and are continuing to grow. Themes so far have included "My Happiness", "Extreme", "MAD" and our last was "Lifted".(Keep your eye on our upcoming events for the next one).
We will also be a part of Emmanuel Worship's "Ignite 2002 - Speak Life" FireStarter Conference, from June 27-30. The Conference will have three streams focusing on Youth, Leadership and Worship/Arts, and is set to be a major event. More details are available now just contact us anyway you know how.
